Wine Review: Unlike Thomas Jefferson who tried to grow grapes in Virginia for 30 years in the 1700s but failed to produce even a single bottle of wine, the King Family winery produces many very good varieties including their deep golden colored Petit Manseng. The rich bouquet includes aromas of baked pear, honeysuckle, pineapple, jasmine, and quince. On the palate, it is full bodied with medium-plus acidity. The mouthfeel is slightly creamy with good balance. I found it to be dry, bright, and nicely layered with flavors of peach, Anjou pear, beeswax, and gentle saline with notes of ruby grapefruit, spicy ginger, and pineapple, and a hint of toasted nuts. The finish is fruity and extended. Serve lightly chilled alongside broiled halibut with lemon butter sauce. – Mark
Winemaker Notes: A burst of tropical aromas, like papaya and mango, is met with electric acidity, creating a dynamic balance. This full-bodied wine features a layered texture and a long, food-friendly finish.
