Wine Review: A crisp and pale straw-colored Sauvignon Blanc from the Columbia Valley in Washington. It's inviting bouquet includes pink grapefruit, dried grass, honeysuckle, and wet stone. A silky and round mouthfeel on the palate, with a medium body and integrated medium-plus acidity. It is fresh, balanced, and clean. I found flavors of white grapefruit, tangerine, pea tendrils and light minerality, along with notes of pineapple and passion fruit. The finish is refreshing and long, with a pleasant bitter note. Serve lightly chilled with a fried haddock sandwich. - Mark

Winemaker Notes: This Sauvignon Blanc shines with a pale-yellow hue and vibrant green highlights, hinting at the freshness within. The nose bursts with bright aromas of tangerine, lychee, white grapefruit, and key lime pie, beautifully complemented by delicate notes of honeysuckle, gooseberry, and a touch of crushed stone. On the palate, a silky, medium-bodied texture carries luscious flavors of Anjou pear, passionfruit, and yellow peach. A lively, medium-plus acidity adds a refreshing lift, leading to a lingering citrus finish with a kiss of pineapple and a touch of minerality—leaving you eager for the next sip. Perfectly paired with grilled asparagus topped with parmesan, fish tacos, or fresh oysters. Ideal drinking is now to 3 years.

Winemaker Interview Series – Martha Stoumen of Martha Stoumen - April 2025

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Martha Stoumen. Martha is the winemaker and owner of Martha Stoumen Wines. We covered three white wines, two rosé wines, and three red wines with Martha. Martha is not your typical California winemaker. She uses lesser-known grapes, makes atypical blends, and has a unique style. You can read about these unique wines and other tidbits we learned from Martha in our latest blog post. Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of Predecessor - April 2025

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Cole Ballentine. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at Predecessor Estate. Cole and his father-built Predecessor Estate to reunite the mountain with their ancestors who once farmed the area. We covered Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from both the 2018 and the 2021 vintages. We also covered the Predecessor Estate reserve Cabernet Sauvignon named "Lorraine" from both the 2016 and the 2108 vintages. These are super-premium offerings; very little of each was made. You can read about these special wines and other tidbits we learned from Cole in our latest blog post. Read This Blog Post
