Wine Review: This slightly opaque and deep garnet colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Cornell opens with an inviting blueberry and blackberry bouquet with hints of cedar, pencil lead and rose petals. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is superbly balanced, smooth, polished and layered. The flavor profile is a delicious cassis and graphite blend with notes of black plum and black tea. We also detected hints of 85% dark chocolate. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and well-managed and moderately dusty tannins are very nicely sustained. We would pair this very impressive Cab with Roy's rib roast. Enjoy - Ken & Stuart

Winemaker Notes: Aged with intention for an additional year in the finest French oak, the 2021 Commitment Cabernet Sauvignon arrives effortlessly at a place of maturity and balance. The wine embodies strength and finesse, revealing persistent layers of fruit, herb, and earth. Aromas of violets and black cherry unfold into a richly textured palate supported by fine-grained tannins, with notes of blackberry bramble, cacao, espresso, clove, and olive creating a harmonious and immersive experience.

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Winemaker Interview Series – Jeff Gaffner of Saxon Brown – May 2026

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage. We wrapped up the tasting with a 2023 Zinfandel.
