Wine Review: This deep purple colored Zinfandel from Mauritson opens with an inviting boysenberry and black cherry bouquet with hints of brownie, violets, and nutmeg. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, fresh, and savory. The flavor profile is a black plum and graphite blend with notes of black tea and orange zest. We also detected hints of cherry, cinnamon fireball, and a dash of black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate chewy tannins are nicely extended. We would pair this Zin with slow cooked beef brisket or cassoulet. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our 2023 Rockpile Ridge Vineyard Zinfandel has rich aromas of blackberry compote, crushed toasted walnut, violet, sassafras, and sweet earthen spice with notes of cola berry. The entry is driven by ripe juicy dark fruits, a firm core of mountain tannins and lingering of spice. With ample aeration, this Zinfandel will be even more fabulous. Plan to enjoy over the next 10-12 years.
