Wine Review: This clear and red colored Pinot Noir from Dutton Goldfield opens with a mild lingonberry and blue spruce needles bouquet with hints of cherry, cranberry, and violets. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, seamless, fresh, and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a red plum and cherry blend with notes of lingonberry and green tea. We also detected hints of lime zest, crushed stone dust, and dried cranberry. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed fine tannins fade away nicely. We would pair this food friendly and versatile and Pinot Noir with a sesame crusted pan-seared tuna or with a Bob’s Turkey Farm turkey pot pie. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Our 5 Wells Pinot Noir is a captivating expression of the Russian River Valley’s coolest edge, offering a beautifully lifted and floral profile. The wine opens with aromas of lilac and forest floor, layered with warm baking spices and a hint of earthiness. On the palate, it’s bright and graceful, with juicy red cranberry and ripe Bing cherry at its core. The texture is silky and seamless, gliding into a long, supple finish that suggests both charm now and aging potential ahead. This vintage is already singing in the glass, and we’re excited to see how it continues to evolve with time. The best pairings are fresh fig or with grilled pork chops with a cranberry-thyme compote.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
