Wine Review: This opaque and very dark ruby colored Mencía from Alvaredos-Hobbs opens with a blackberry and violet bouquet with hints of boysenberry and pencil lead. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a black olive and tobacco blend with notes of black licorice and mulberry. I also detected hints of oak, graphite, and blackberry tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and its dusty moderate tannins are nicely extended. I would pair this Mencía with beef bourguignon. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Vibrant, deep rhodolite garnet with violet reflections, the 2022 Mencía opens slowly in the glass, unveiling delicate aromas of red mulberry and huckleberry intertwined with hints of violet and baking spice. This vein of spice carries through into the palate, merging seamlessly with juicy dark fruits and a whisper of slate-driven minerality that weaves throughout the midpalate. Silky fine-grained tannins are balanced by vibrant acidity, lending an elegant tension through to a persistent, refreshing finish.
