Wine Review: This hazy and medium purple colored Petit Verdot from Jefferson Vineyards opens with a pine saw dust and shitake mushroom bouquet with hints of violets and blue fruit. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and fresh. The flavor profile is a black plum and sage blend with notes of coconut and cola. We also detected hints of mild black tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and medium dusty tannins fade away nicely. We would pair this Cab with Sheri’s sausage stuffed mushrooms. The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Winemaker Interview Series - Mike Kobler of Kobler Estate Winery – July 2026

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Mike Kobler. Mike is the winemaker at Kobler Estate Winery. During the interview, we covered two 2024 rosé wines, one made from Pinot Noir and one made from Syrah. We also covered a 2023 and a 2024 Viognier from the Russian River Valley. Those discussions were followed by a focus on a 2023 and a 2024 Chardonnay from the Bacigalupi Vineyards. We wrapped up the interview with a 2022 Syrah and a 2023 "Reserve" Syrah.
