Wine Review: This translucent and medium red colored Cabernet Franc from Merriam shows a lot of finesse. It opens with a shy black cherry bouquet with hints of cinnamon. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, delicate, smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a red berry and cinnamon blend with notes of tobacco and stone dust. We also detected hints of red plum, vanilla, and cherry. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and fine mild tannins drift away nicely. We would pair this refined and complimentary Cab Franc with a lightly seared ahi tuna or shrimp tempura. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: This Cabernet Franc opens with elegant and expressive notes of brambly cherry, cranberry, and raspberry, lifted by a gentle thread of sweet sandalwood. The palate is lush and juicy yet refined, showcasing a harmonious mix of black pepper and warm baking spices, all layered over a subtle minerality that adds drive and dimension. This wines time in barrel imparts a supple texture, quiet richness, and aromatic depth.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
