Wine Review: This clear and pale ruby colored Pinot Noir from Olivia Brion opens with a cherry-cola and red plum bouquet with hints of saddle leather. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, bright, and a touch zesty. The flavor profile is a stewed black plum and black pepper blend with notes of black cherry and tobacco. We also detected hints of oak and cardamon. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and managed moderate tannins are nicely extended. We would pair this Pinot Noir with a blackened salmon burger or with a prosciutto, fig, and arugula pizza. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Bright raspberry on the nose with a subtle shitake mushroom, dark cherry, and fresh plum on the palate with a hint of cardamon, finishing on a touch of bay leaf. A bright and vivacious wine that will age gracefully with its balanced acid and tannin structure. Pairs beautifully with the fat in a pork chop but is versatile enough to match the savory sweetness of a grilled salmon. Drink now through 2035.

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Recently, our coverage has expanded beyond just the Governor’s Cup winners. Ken has been so impressed with Virginia wines that Theresa and he visited some wineries in the Charlottesville region in October of 2024. We highly recommend that you check out the six Virginia wineries in this post. We will start from the south near Charlottesville in the Monticello AVA and make our way north. Read This Blog Post
