Wine Review: This clear and pale coral colored sparkling wine from Merriam opens with random small and tiny streaming bubbles. The bouquet features wet stone and strawberry with hints of cinnamon and cantaloupe. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, delicate, slightly creamy, and fresh. The flavor profile is a stony minerality and gentle dried strawberry blend with notes of quince and almond. I also detected hints of ginger and cashew. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. I would pair this very approachable sparkler with salmon croquettes. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: This special release Blanc de Noirs showcases the depth and elegance of 100% estate-grown Pinot Noir, crafted in the traditional method. The nose evokes a spring day, with delicate floral aromas and fresh strawberries. On the palate, notes of warm powdered almond croissant complement the vibrant, expressive character of this sparkling wine making it an ideal toast for any occasion.

Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of William Cole – Jan 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, we interviewed Cole Ballentine once again. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at William Cole Winery. We first interviewed Cole when we covered his super-premium Predecessor Estate wines in April of 2025. This time around, we covered six wines from the William Cole winery. We started with a 2023 Chardonnay. Then we tried a 2022 red blend. From there, we covered four Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Those Cabs were from the following vintages: 2018, 2022, 2016, and 2009. It was a terrific portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what is new with Cole, learn about the William Cole Winery, and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
