Wine Review: This clear and red colored Pinot Noir from VGS opens with a black cherry and light loam bouquet with hints of candied violets, dried strawberry, and faint cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, very smooth, seamless, and fresh. The flavor profile is stone dust and red plum blend with notes of herbal tea and light cherry. We also detected hints of pomegranate. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed mild tannins build-up and drift away nicely. We would pair this Pinot with pheasant or rabbit, Colorado lamb chops. Enjoy – KWGTP

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, we interviewed Ry Richards. Ry took over as the winemaker at Chappellet in 2023.
