Wine Review: This opaque and deep purple colored Lagrein from Peter Zemmer is very good. It opens with a mild blackberry and black cherry bouquet with hints of wet stone and pencil lead. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, velvety, seamless, and lush. The flavor profile is a black currant and tobacco blend with notes of graphite, spice, and blackberry tea. I also detected hints of black olive, oak, and a touch of black licorice. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and its well-managed moderate tannins show nice length. I would pair this Lagrein with a grilled venison steak. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Deep, dark garnet red with violet reflections the wine is redolent of violets, bitter chocolate, wild berries, licorice, and vanilla. Those tones translate to the palate backed by velvety mouthfeel, with soft tannins, prominent structure, and a very long finish. Pair with hearty red meat dishes, game, or sharp cheeses.
