Wine Review: This clear and dark red colored Grenache based blend from Pax is terrific and a great value. It opens with a red raspberry and violet bouquet with hints of wild strawberry and loam. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, and seamless. The flavor profile is very tasty red raspberry and wild strawberry blend with notes of light loam and green tea. I also detected hints of vanilla and just a touch of banana in the aftertaste. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and gentle dusty tannins linger nicely. I would pair this red blend that reminded me of a Cru Fleurie with coq au vin. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Spicy chai tea, zesty herbs, strawberry rhubarb pie and black tar layer together in this cohesive medium bodied blend. Spicy fruit flavors bring together this savory blend and balance each other while adding depth and intrigue. This is very old-world in style with the punch of California fruit bringing it into focus. Perfect with a roast chicken and roasted butternut squash.

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Martha Stoumen. Martha is the winemaker and owner of Martha Stoumen Wines. We covered three white wines, two rosé wines, and three red wines with Martha. Martha is not your typical California winemaker. She uses lesser-known grapes, makes atypical blends, and has a unique style. You can read about these unique wines and other tidbits we learned from Martha in our latest blog post. Winemaker Interview Series – Cole Ballentine of Predecessor - April 2025

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Cole Ballentine. Cole is the co-winemaker, with his father William Ballentine Jr., at Predecessor Estate. Cole and his father-built Predecessor Estate to reunite the mountain with their ancestors who once farmed the area. We covered Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from both the 2018 and the 2021 vintages. We also covered the Predecessor Estate reserve Cabernet Sauvignon named "Lorraine" from both the 2016 and the 2108 vintages. These are super-premium offerings; very little of each was made. You can read about these special wines and other tidbits we learned from Cole in our latest blog post. Read This Blog Post
