Wine Review: This clear and dark red colored Gamay Noir from Gros Ventre is very good. It opens with a potting soil and strawberry bouquet with hints of cola, lavender, and violets. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, smooth, and a little mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a tasty blend of lingonberry and light loam blend with notes of oolong tea and red plum. We also detected hints of red cherry and dried herbs. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and mild tannins are nicely sustained. We would pair this Gamay with grilled mahi-mahi sandwich. Enjoy - KWGTP

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Winemaker Interview Series – Jeff Gaffner of Saxon Brown – May 2026

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage. We wrapped up the tasting with a 2023 Zinfandel.
