Wine Review: This ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Vina Cobos opens with a black currant and wet stone bouquet with hints of tobacco and black plum. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and easy to drink. The flavor profile is a black currant and stony minerality blend with notes of black cherry, tobacco, and vanilla. I also detected hints of oak, black pepper, and a touch of black coffee. The finish is dry, and its flavors, zesty acidity, and mild tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this Cab with a juicy grilled Kobe sliders. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: Deep red color with ruby highlights. Aromas of spice, cherries, red fruits, roasted bell pepper, black pepper, and menthol. On the palate, it is pure, round, balanced, juicy, and has a long finish.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
