Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Petite Sirah from Robert Foley opens with a tobacco and leather bouquet with hints of blackberry, black licorice, and dark chocolate. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is massive! It is also balanced, dense, and bright. The flavor profile is a cedar influenced blackberry and Australian soft black licorice with notes of acai berry and graphite. I also detected hints of black pepper, English black tea, and tobacco. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and bold tannins are nicely sustained. We would pair this Petite Sirah with a cigar. With food we would pair this a pulled duck platter. Enjoy - Ken, Mark & Dave

Winemaker Notes: Blackberry pie on the face! This massive pitch-black Petite Sirah coats the entire palate with gripping tannin and delicious berry flavors and yet it finishes with a balance of extract and acidity that beckons another sip...I insisted this Petite Sirah block be harvested on September 26, 2020; it was only a few tons and I had another small Cabernet pick to do on the same day. This was very fortunate for us, because the following day, the Glass Fire broke out – we are so happy to have this excellent vintage!

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines. Winemaker Interview Series – Julien Howsepian – Kosta Browne – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, we interviewed Julien Howsepian. Julien is the winemaker at Kosta Browne Winery. We covered nine wines during our visit. We started with a 2023 vintage Chardonnay. Then we tried two AVA focused Pinot Noir from 2023 and followed that up with two single vineyard 2023 Pinot Noirs. We concluded the tasting with a mini-vertical of 2022 and 2023 vintage Pinots from Volnay and Beaune. It was a terrific and very interesting portfolio tasting. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Julien, the history of Kosta Browne and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines. Read This Blog Post
