Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Cabernet Franc from DAOU opens with a black currant and old leather bouquet with hints of black cherry, cinnamon, and nutmeg. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, and juicy. The flavor profile is a mineral influenced black currant with notes of black plum and black tea. We also detected hints of oak, herbs, and light chocolate in the mix. The finish is dry, and its initial monster tannins are dusty and chunky. They last for a very long time. However, with a lot of aeration or decanting, these tannins can be tamed. The Tasting Panel would pair this Cab Franc with a well-marbled ribeye or duck breast. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: The 2019 DAOU Estate Cabernet Franc reveals how this classic Bordeaux variety excels on DAOU Mountain, where the soils are reminiscent of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The 2019 vintage presents aromas of black plum and blueberry with hints of crushed stone, violet, lilac and graphite. A full-bodied palate explodes with fresh fruit flavors. While intense and structured, this wine also shows tremendous balance and elegance. The result is a standout Cabernet Franc that promises to evolve favorably over the next decade and beyond.
