Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards celebrates the wineries 25th anniversary. It opens with a fragrant stewed plum and toasted oak bouquet with hints of flowers and red beet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and a bit dense. The flavor profile is slightly concentrated pomegranate and dried strawberry blend with notes of black tea and stewed black plum. I also detected hints of clove, oak, and loam. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and dusty tannins linger for quite some time. I would decant this bold Pinot for a while in the near term before pairing it with grilled salmon. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Crafted by winemaker Heidi von der Mehden, who worked alongside Merry for five vintages, this wine is a selection from our most prized Russian River Valley vineyards, which resulted in a classic Merry Edwards bottling of great power and elegance. The nose is filled with fresh berries, blood orange, sarsaparilla and charcuterie notes. On the palate, elegant tannins make room for nuanced hints of rhubarb and citrus peel that lead into a finish filled with energy and bursting with berries.
