Wine Review: This hazy and dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards opens with a dark chocolate cake batter and black plum bouquet with hints of black tea and black raspberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and bold. The flavor profile is ripe black plum and oolong tea blend with notes of tobacco and chocolate. We also detected hints of fig paste and blueberry. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and its integrated mild refined tannins fade away nicely. This benefits from some decanting. So, after a good decant, we would pair this polished Pinot with Korean beef bulgogi or Morimoto’s glazed ribs. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The Richaven vineyard is located at Merry Edwards' home ranch, just a half-mile from our Meredith Estate vineyard in the Sebastopol Hills. This vintage of Richaven has an enchanting perfumed nose, with floral aromas of rose and exotic hibiscus, as well as subtle toasty oak, cocoa, vanilla cola, black pepper and tobacco. In the mouth, sweet oak and red fruit notes support round, rich and very structured tannins. Bittersweet chocolate, bay leaf and thyme linger on the finish.
