Wine Review: This hazy and dark maroon colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards opens with a blackberry and soft Australian black licorice bouquet with hints of black cherry and moist cookie dough. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, dense, and rich. The flavor profile is a blackberry and black licorice blend with notes of Earl Grey tea and stony minerality. I also detected hints of orange peel, black pepper, oak, and clove. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and moderate tannins linger briefly before drifting away. This bold-styled Pinot Noir benefits from some aeration. I would decant it for a bit in the near term before pairing it with your favorite duck recipe. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our most important vineyard, Meredith Estate, has just been certified organic, and Winemaker Heidi von der Mehden is taking the lessons learned here and implementing them at all of our vineyard sites. Our 2023 Meredith Estate features a characteristically spicy, floral nose, with fragrances of sandalwood, tea, roses, and vanilla. The layered entry is mouthwatering, revealing notes of strawberry and rhubarb that lead to a savory, spicy finish.
