Wine Review: This opaque and deep ruby colored Cabernet and Shiraz blend opens with a black currant and charred oak bouquet with a hint of cherry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, well-balanced and very smooth. The flavor is a very tasty mild black currant and oak blend with nicely integrated graphite. We also detected hints of blackberry and black cherry. The finish is dry and its well-managed tannins and flavors linger nicely. The Panel suggested pairing this wine with a filet mignon. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: Bin 389 was often referred to as Baby Grange. Mainly because components of this wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. The 2017 is deep red colored. On the nose, its aromas come in waves. The first-wave impression is of black currant and Cabernet-driven aromatics. Then a second wave of chive, mustard spice, beeswax, lemon/honey tea and thyme flowers arrive. Followed by some cherry-wood, sarsaparilla and aniseed. On the palate, this wine is full bodied and rich. It displays flavors of charcuterie meats with pastrami dominating. There is also notes of pomegranate, cranberry, Madagascan vanilla and black licorice mixed in. This wine’s youthful profile is tempered by softened and even tannins from start to finish.
