Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and dark ruby colored red blend from South Africa opens with black kookaburra licorice, old leather, and black currant bouquet with hints of black tea and ash. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced and rustic. The flavor profile is a black licorice, cedar, and black currant blend with notes of black tea, loam, and stony minerality. There also were some hints mild black cherry and smoked meat toward the finish. This red blend would pair well with Jiko’s wild boar or any smoked meat at your braai. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Jasper Red Blend is a tribute to Bruwer's late father, Jasper, who was one of Raats' founders and the viticulturist for nine years. This complex Cabernet Franc-driven Bordeaux blend shows blackberry and black cherry on the nose, along with the perfume and violets one would expect from an 60% Cabernet Franc wine. The palate offers luscious brambly berry fruit intertwined with hints of tobacco, anise, and dark chocolate. Silky tannins caress the palate, and a lovely minerality shines through on the long, supple finish.
