On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, we once again interviewed Rebekah Wineburg. Rebekah is the winemaker at Quintessa Winery and the owner and winemaker for Post & Vine. During the interview, we covered two Quintessa wines: the winery’s 2025 “Illumination” Sauvignon Blanc and 2022 “Red Wine” from Rutherford. We also covered a Post & Vine 2023 Zinfandel from a historic vineyard in Lodi and a 2022 “Old Vine Field Blend” from Mendocino. We last interviewed Rebekah in March of 2025, when we covered previous vintages of the wines. You can read about those wines in that post here. (Some of these wines are also still available) In the current interview, Rebekah shared some updates since our last chat. Finally, you can read the summary of our reviews of all of these wines in this post!
Before we get to the wine reviews, I thought I would share a few tidbits we learned during the tasting with Rebekah.
- What is new at Quintessa and Post & Vine?
Quintessa is still replanting about 5% to 8% of their vineyard each year.
- After next year they will take a pause in the replanting as the average age of the vineyard as a whole will be 25 years. This is a sweet spot age.
- What is the grape makeup at Quintessa?
- 75% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 9% Cabernet Franc
- 5% Carmenere
- 1% Merlot
- 1% Petit Verdot
- 9% Fallow or Sauvignon Blanc
- In 2023 Post & Vine made an “Old Vine Zinfandel” from the Historic Stampede Vineyard in Lodi!
- They had cool weather and an ample crop. So, they had a little extra fruit.
- This wine was only made in 2023. Only 25 cases were made!
- The 2022 Post & Vine “Old Vine Field Blend” from Mendocino.
- These grapes are dry farmed and more resistant to the heat and drought.
- Old Vines in general are better positioned for harsher weather.
- Vintage Updates
- 2020, 2021, and 2022 were all extreme drought years.
- 2022 was the third year of drought and heat. Smaller berries and smaller crops.
- 2023 was in between 2018 and 2019. Fresh wines. More red fruit. Brawnier than 2022.
- 2024 was a lot like 2019. With more acidity and less tannin.
- 2025 is shaping up nicely. A lot of powerful tannins.
- 2026 – They are three weeks ahead of 2025. They expect to pick early.
