heree and Brian Thornsberry Innumero WinesOn Wednesday, June 18, 2025, we had the opportunity to interview Sheree and Brian Thornsberry and Ashley Herzberg. Sheree and Brian are the owners of Innumero Wines. Ashley is their winemaker. We covered their first Chardonnay which is from the 2023 vintage. We also covered seven Pinot Noirs. One from the 2021 vintage, two from 2022, and four from 2023. Below you can learn about Innumero and read about these wines.

Before we get to the wines, I thought I would share some tidbits that Sheree, Brian, and Ashley shared in the interview.

  • Some background on Sheree and Brian Thornsberry.
    • Moved from St. Louis to Santa Rosa, CA.
    • Motivated to follow their dream after their eldest son told them they were “above average.”
    • They started the winery in 2021.
    • Sheree is the CEO and runs the winery business day to day.
    • Brian still works full time in financial services and has been doing that for 30 years.
    • Brian works with the vineyard owners and sources all the grapes for their project.
  • Why Innumero and what does it mean?
    • Meaning: (Latin) countless, numberless, beyond the numbers.
  • Ashley Herzberg Innumero WinemakerSome background on Ashley Herzberg.
    • Ashley is from the Tahoe area and studied chemical engineering at the University of Nevada.
    • Ashley left a medical career to start working at Owl Ridge Wine Services in Sebastopol.
      • At this custom crush facility, Ashley quickly moved up from Lab Technician to Lab Manager and worked with Merry Edwards and Carol Shelton.
    • By mid-2007, Ashley found herself at Mauritson Wines as Enologist and soon was named Assistant Winemaker.
    • In 2011, she decided to take the leap into consulting.
      • She started making Chardonnay for Bacigalupi Vineyards for their inaugural vintage of 2011.
      • Since 2011, she also makes sparkling, and Rhone styled wines for Amista Vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley. She also helped them achieve their organic certification of their vineyards in 2024.
    • Ashley brings her scientific approach to the art of winemaking, ensuring control and consistency while letting the natural expression of the vineyard shine through.
    • We learned about bulldogging from Ashley.
    • We learned that the Innumero wines are unfined and unfiltered.
    • Ashley uses very little intervention in their wine. This allows the vineyard to express itself.
    • We learned that sometimes Sheree and Brian come up with new ideas and Ashley says. “We are not going to do that.”
  • Ashley makes the Innumero wines at Grand Cru Custom Crush.
    • We cover a lot of wines made in this facility including Saxon Brown, Black Kite, Moret Brealynn, and Maritana.
  • What is new at Innumero?
    • They will introduce a Sauvignon Blanc to the lineup for the 2024 vintage.
    • They will have another Chard from the Ellen Lane Vineyard coming online this fall.
    • The will have a new Pinot source for 2025. 100% 777 Clone from Lancel Creek Vineyard.
    • They are also looking to source grapes from the Shark Tooth Vineyard which is three ridges from the ocean. It is new vineyard in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA developed by vineyard architect and manager Charlie Chenoweth.
  • The 2023 Chardonnay is Innumero’s first ever Chardonnay produced.
  • Norstar Wines
    • The name “Norstar” set their compass for their direction and what they wanted.
    • In 2022 and 2023 they used 100% Wente in this wine.
  • Little Boot Vineyard is 6-7 acres west of Sebastopol. In 2023 they used 100% Calera grapes.
  • Bootlegger’s Hill Vineyard
    • The Chard is 100% Hyde Wente grapes.
    • The Pinot is 100% Pommard grapes.
  • “Barrel Select” started with the 2022 vintage. This is a wine made from their best four barrels.
