Wine Glossary
Definition: Left Bank
Left Bank is part of the Bordeaux wine region of France. It includes the Margaux, Pauillac, St. Estephe, St. Julien, and Graves appellations. In general wines from the Left bank are based primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon. But remember, that most Bordeaux wines are blends. Also of note, all Bordeaux’s famed first growth wines come from the Left Bank. So if you were traveling on a boat northwest on the Gironde River towards the Atlantic Ocean, the Left Bank region is on your left.
