Wine Glossary
Definition: Cluster
The viticultural term for a bunch of grapes. There are typically between 20 and 50 clusters of grapes on a mature vine. The weight of each cluster can vary from a few ounces to more than five pounds, depending on the variety of grape and where it grows. In general, winemakers prefer smaller rather than larger clusters, because smaller clusters tend to make wines with more concentrated flavors and aromas.
